The Mystic Shoes have been entertaining audiences throughout the Highlands and beyond for a decade now and have become firmly established as one of the finest party bands in the country.

These guys come with a good time guarantee, delivering a highly individualistic grand sweep across the history of popular music. Mystic Shoes move seamlessly across genres, taking in blues, country, reggae, pop and just about everything else and injecting it with a unique energy which has seen them become the house band at some of the country’s leading festivals, including RockNess, Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival and Loopallu.

Rising Fort William rockers Russian Ninjas are quickly generating an unavoidable local buzz thanks to a series of barnstorming live performances. The Lochaber four-piece’s intriguing mix of high-energy guitar driven indie/rock and moody lyrical themes makes them a local act to keep a very close eye on in 2011.

Kitty The Lion

Starting life as singer-songwriter Anna Meldrum, Kitty the Lion became a pride in 2009 with the addition of Joe Rattray on upright bass, Nick Roan on drums, Sorren Maclean on guitar and Callum Wiseman on mandolin to the line up. Since then, the band have been named as one to watch by Vic Galloway and Jim Gellatly, and Chris Addison – that guy from The Thick of It who is on Mock the Week sometimes – said they were “ace”. Kitty the Lion have gigged up and down the country since their inception, including coveted slots at T in the Park and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party. They have also built dens out of bunk-beds, worn clothing made of tents and leapt from a burning van somewhere on the A9.

Mr. Goodall and his august colleagues can be relied upon to provide superb musicianship, unconventional yet heart-warming songsmithery, and – if the between-song banter is anything to go by – a great sense of humour. But don’t take my word for it. Have a listen to some tracks, and go to see them live.

BRONTO SKYLIFT
Bronto Skylift announced for Rock the Fort Festival 2011
Ferocious Highland duo, Bronto Skylift are fresh from a blistering sonic assault on the US which saw them generate a huge buzz at leading industry event SXSW and deliver at a series of shows in Los Angeles. Bronto are unquestionably one of the most exciting bands to have emerged from the Highlands in recent years and are an electrifying prospect in the live environment, but don’t just take our word for it:
“Dazzling beat combo. Live, they will set your face on fire.” The Skinny
“There’s melody and groove at the heart of their songs, and a passion in their delivery that would put most bands to shame.” The Scotsman
“The sound of a thousand angry bears running amok in a salmon farm.” Glasgow Podcart
